The Bosch Story

The "Workshop for Quality Mechanics and Electrical Engineering" was established by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart in 1886. This was the moment when the Robert Bosch GmbH that exists today was founded. The company's history has always been marked by a dedication to innovation and civic conscience. In it’s archives, we have a list of the highlights from more than 125 years.

As AIllies & Company opened a retail location in Calcutta in 1922, Bosch made its debut in India. The business relied solely on imports to flourish in the Indian industry for three decades. Motor Industries Company Ltd. (MICO) was established in 1951, and Bosch immediately purchased 49% of its equity. After the Indian government enacted tight import restrictions, MICO became the lone distributor. In 1953, a facility was established in Adugodi, Bangalore, to produce a range of goods under a Bosch license. From that moment forward, there were additional apprenticeships, which resulted in the establishment of a Vocational Center in 1960.

By 1961, 2,000 employees were employed in the Bangalore facility, which had already begun conducting shipping business, and Bosch had acquired 57.5% of MICO shares. Increased investments in MICO factories in India followed in the late 1960s and early 1970s; another facility was built in Nasik between 1969 and 1971, and a third one in Naganathapura between 1988 and 1989. Up until MICO was eventually renamed Bosch Limited in 2008, the second-largest contingent of Bosch personnel outside of Germany was situated in India.
